Review: Mumma’s Little Helpers Food Catcher

Messy eaters are so adorable to watch, but cleaning up after them is not as sweet of an experience. Whether your little one is fed home made purées, or eats finger food on their own, a high percentage of the food does not make it to their mouths right away. Food can end up on their clothing, in their hair, on us, and (the worst place) on the floor or carpet. I have gone through numerous precautions to avoid messy floors, including putting down a towel under their high chairs, and even relying on my good old fashion reflexes to catch the food before it makes it to the ground. While those tactics have proven to be somewhat effective, there are many alternatives, such as these food catchers by Mumma’s Little Helpers.

About the Product:
These Food Catchers by Mumma’s Little Helpers are (Australian made) material cape made of cotton PUL, and designed to attach to any high chair to catch the mess that would otherwise end up on the ground. As a busy mommy of three, I am always on the hunt for products that save me some time. Every second counts! When that food falls, there’s no need to worry about it damaging your carpeting, or crusting up on your floor (which makes it harder to remove). Once baby is finished eating, simple grab a bowl and scoop out the contents of the catcher. Problem solved!

You can simply use a cloth to wipe any residue from the catcher once you are finished. Since the food catchers are machine washable, you can also toss them in the wash at the end of the day as well. This is what I do, as we also have cloth diapers and bibs to include in the load as well.

Pros:
•Less mess of course! That means more time for us parents and less stress.
•I LOVE that they are machine washable. Cloth diapers, muslin wraps and bibs are part of our everyday wash load, so adding our food catcher to the mix is a breeze. I hang my catcher overnight to dry.
•Attaches to both high chair trays and under the dining table. They basically grow with your child for the entire weaning stages.

Cons:
•If you want to attach it to other chairs, it comes with a case that helps you pack it neatly with your belongings. However, you will need to purchase extra pieces of Velcro, or save some cash by simply taping it to the chair of your choice.

Notes/Tips on the Product:
•We use a dinning room chair with a booster seat rather than a high chair, and our food catcher fits that as well.
•When I am feeling lazy, I sometimes just lay my food catcher flat on the ground rather than set it up the standard way. When completely flat, it covers enough ground to still catch the food without assembling.

More Fun Uses:
Changing Pad: Lay it flat on a couch or carpet to change baby. When you’re on the go, use the case to also include an extra diaper and spare wipes.
Emergency Crib Mattress Cover: Is your little one sleeping in someone else’s home? Your catcher can protect the mattress from a possible mishap
Play Mat: When your toddlers are in the mood for some messy playtime and crafting, this makes for a great plat mat as well.
